Aerial Imagery

The use of drones for providing aerial imagery in commercial applications has become mainstream over the past few years, as a result people are finding more and more applications for them and this results in new cameras and sensors coming to the market at lightspeed. At Autonomica we don’t describe ourselves as a drone operator because we don’t see the drone as the primary tool of our trade, much more important is the payload that the drone is carrying and the capability of that payload to deliver the aerial imagery required.

Our drones can be equipped with a variety of cameras and sensors depending on the task in hand. The camera we use for media production is very different than the camera we use for inspections and they are both very different from our infra-red and multispectral apparatus. The drone allows us to cost effectively place these sensors in places where traditionally it has been difficult or expensive to do so and produces aerial imagery in a cost effective and safe manner.

We operate our drones under the terms of our PfCO issued by the CAA and undertake weekly training exercises to develop flying skills and ensure functionality. Our main focus is for the drone to safely position the camera as required for the mission, the process to achieve that is NEVER compromised and we WILL NOT take shortcuts when deploying our drones.

Our processes require that a number of steps are carried out in advance of deploying drones, these require a considerable amount of time even when operating in uncontrolled airspace and can be extremely complex if operating in environments where airspace is controlled or restricted. Because of this we do not offer a standard rate for aerial operations, we’d rather you contact us with your requirements. As a guideline a half day deployment taking off and landing in uncontrolled airspace within the ground boundaries of a private property would be between £300 and £400 and would provide around 80 minutes of raw footage assuming continuous filming.

Our aerial operations are covered by our Public Liability Insurance of £2,000,000 for bodily injury and damage to property provided by Coverdrone.

AERIAL IMAGERY – VERTICAL ASSETS

Whether it’s telecommunications masts, wind turbines, industrial chimneys or elevated electrical equipment our cameras capture incredible detail. With 4K video resolution at 30FPS and 12MP stills from our standard inspection cameras we ensure that the data you need is presented in a format you can use, allowing you to see intricate detailing of your asset. Our infra-red capability will identify a number of issues including weakness in industrial chimneys and electrical failures in elevated electrical equipment.

AERIAL IMAGERY – ROOFING

Inspecting a roof has previously meant hiring costly equipment to gain access. We provide cost effective roof surveys in high resolution photography, 4K video and infra-red according to your requirements to ensure you obtain a full view of potential issues quickly and efficiently.  ARPAS is partnered with the National Federation of Roofing Contractors to ensure the developments of ever safer methods for roofing surveys and as an ARPAS member, Autonomica is committed to ensuring that we follow all agreed practices.

AERIAL IMAGERY – BRIDGES

Bridges have been historically dangerous and difficult to inspect, Autonomica can provide the data you need without the requirement for humans to go over the edge. Our inspection cameras provide all the detail you need to determine your maintenance plan.

AERIAL IMAGERY – REAL ESTATE

Aerial imagery is becoming the norm in marketing real estate, providing new perspectives on property and showing detail that would previously have been extremely costly to obtain. Imagery can be provided with with our virtual tours for a powerful marketing medium.

AERIAL IMAGERY – CREATIVE MEDIA

Aerial photographs and video shots can add a new dimension to creative projects, we can provide raw footage for you to integrate in your project at very reasonable prices. We can also produce your end to end project, see our cinematography page for more details.

OUR EQUIPMENT

YUNEEC H520 HEXACOPTER

H520 2

AIRCRAFT

Safety is our primary focus so we’ve opted for the H520 hexacopter from Yuneec as our industry workhorse. Unlike quadcopters, the technology incorporated in this aircraft ensures that we can safely land on 5 motors in the unlikely event of failure. Developed for commercial use, the H520 is the perfect solution for long flight times and a proven and robust technology in an all-in-one package. The H520 is built for inspection, law enforcement, security, construction, surveying, and mapping applications in addition to offering cinematic imaging payload systems. Our H52 can be equipped with each of the three cameras described below making it an extremely versatile machine.

E90

The E90 camera is a wide-angle, high resolution, gimbal stabilized imaging system perfectly suited for use in applications that require high quality photo and video. Capable of producing 4K video at 60FPS and 20MP stills, the E90 utilizes a 20 MP 1-inch sensor and the latest H2 high speed image processing chip.

E50

The E50 is our inspection camera, it’s 40 mm equivalent lens enables to capture important visual details while maintaining a safe distance from the inspected asset. Capable of 4K video at 30 FPS and 12MP stills it is Ideally suitable for inspection of cell towers, wind turbines and other vertical assets as well as building and roof inspection

CGO-ET

Our thermal imaging and a low light dual camera
is useful in Solar Inspection, Law Enforcement, Fire Fighting, Search & Rescue and Construction. The 1080p low light camera has 20x higher light sensitivity than the human eye and sits alongside the thermal imaging camera. They combine to overlay IR and RGB for a clean, precise image, capturing infrared and video images with identical positioning.

DJI MAVIC AIR

Mavic Air

AIRCRAFT

We use DJI’s brand new microdrone both indoors and out, small enough to fit in a pocket it’s the most compact drone that houses a 4K video and 12mp stills camera on a 3 axis gimbal. Able to capture HDR, produce 32 MP Sphere Panoramas, record slow motion and with a number of pre-loaded intelligent flight paths it is an incredibly competent package for all types of photography and filming tasks. With an impressive 20 minutes flight time per battery it’s a useful asset when travelling light is essential or when we need to fly in tight spaces.
